2010/ 2011 Community Placement Program

Student Volunteers Available for the Coming Year

PBSC UBC is currently looking for organizations that are interested in having volunteer law students to assist them by doing legal research and writing, producing educational materials, helping with intake work, drafting policy memoranda, and other tasks.

Placements must be law-related and suitable for a law student rather than a lawyer or a volunteer with no legal expertise. Students cannot provide legal advice and it is required that a lawyer supervise the work.

Some of the organizations that have benefited from student volunteers in the past include:

BCPIAC, Justice for Girls, BC Civil Liberties Association, FREDA Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children, Access Pro Bono, West Coast Domestic Workers, BC Human Rights Coalition, ARA Mental Health Association, Philippine Women Centre of BC, Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture, Surrey Women’s Centre, West Coast Environmental Law, West Coast LEAF, Lawyers Rights Watch Canada, Mosaic Legal Advocacy and MS Society of Canada.

Interested organisations can contact the Student Coordinators Sara Hopkins and Alison Hamer at ubc@probonostudents.ca or 604 822 8009.
